Investing in the local community
We are aware that dialogue with the local community in which we operate is of key importance in order to achieve a mutual understanding of what we all strive for.
The company ArcelorMittal Prijedor specified its interest groups (“stakeholders”) as well as key activities and regularly updates them in accordance with the current situation, with the aim of improving current cooperation. The result is very active communication and engagement of the company towards all its interest groups.
We are proud of the key role that iron ore production plays in our lives, but at the same time we are aware of the impact that our operations have on the environment and local communities. The company is committed to improving its performance in these areas in every possible way.
Throughout the history of more than 105 years in the production of iron ore, many challenges were encountered, but this branch of the economy always found the best possible solutions. Mining is a kind of family tradition, which left a deep mark in all spheres of life in the city of Prijedor and the Prijedor region. Since the restart of production at the Omarska mine in 2004, we have focused on improving the results in the field of health and safety at work, as well as long-term investments and the development of new deposits to extend mining.
10 outcomes of sustainable development is a strategic way to present the material, social and environmental aspects of our business. These outcomes form the basis of an approach that will help us avoid adverse impacts on our business and create significant value, both for our stakeholders and our shareholders, from the products we create to the way we produce, from the quality of life of our employees to how we are perceived by the communities in which we work.
In addition to employees as the most important resource, we are extremely committed to supporting local initiatives through the Community Investment Program (CI Program) in the fields of education, health, sports, culture, and community development, which reflects our close relationship with the community in which we live and operate.
