The Miner’s mountaineering hall was organized by MSA “Ljubijski rudar”, which is mainly made up of employees of ArcelorMittal Prijedor, and about 80 mountaineers participated in this trip.
In addition to the members of MSA “Ljubijski rudar” we were joined by our mountaineer friends, members of MA “Klekovača” from Prijedor, MA “Gora” and MA “Abonos” from Banja Luka and MA “Trešnjica” ‘ from Gradiska. We started the hike in Stari Majdan, where the president of the association, Božo Grbić, introduced the hikers to interesting details of the history of mining in this area. The beginnings of mining from the time of the Roman Empire provided the basis for the modern mining that we are engaged in today.
Despite the light rain that accompanied us at the beginning of this march, in a happy atmosphere the mountaineers continued on from Stari Maidan, across Stara Rijeka to the Ciganuša mine. At the Ciganuš mine, where ArcelorMittal Prijedor continues the history and tradition of mining in the Ljubija area, we stayed a little longer to introduce our guests to information and our plans for the future.
As we started with the story about the history of the area of Stari Maidan, here Ivan Predojević, Deputy Technical Manager of SP Ciganuša-Škorac and member of MSA “Ljubijski rudar”, introduced us to the details of today’s and future work in this area.
We ended our trip traditionally, with a joint lunch at the Central Workshop, where our Milanka Jakara welcomed and hosted us.
On the occasion of the Miner’s mountaineering, a printed brochure entitled “Trail of Roman and Medieval Mining in the Valley of the River Maidan and the Surroundings of “Stari Maidan” was prepared, in which the history of mining in this area is described.
